The School of Nursing at the University of West Florida (UWF) offers an online Family Nurse Practitioner Master of Science in Nursing (MSN-FNP) program. Coursework is 100 percent online and is delivered asynchronously with an orientation and virtual skills workshop offered the summer before practicums begin.

In addition, students complete preceptorships at approved facilities local to them. No determination has been made as to the program meeting licensure requirements outside the state of Florida and it is the student’s responsibility to verify eligibility with their State Board of Nursing. UWF is an NC-SARA participant and is authorized to provide distance learning to students residing in eligible states.

The FNP program is designed for working nurses who wish to advance their degree to care for patients across the lifespan in a more direct, one-on-one setting. Topics of focus include clinical principles for health assessment, the mechanisms of disease and disease prevention, foundational concepts and theories of nursing, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic health issues, and positive change in health care systems. Courses include education and practicums covering women, children, families, and adults.

Graduates of this program will be eligible to take the FNP certification exams through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

The University of West Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The online FNP program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). UWF is located in Pensacola, FL.
