Meet the Expert: Cene’ L. Livingston DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-C, CNE
Dr. Cene’ Livingston has been a full-time faculty member at Oklahoma City University’s Kramer School of Nursing since 2012 and has served as a nurse educator since 2001. In 2022, she assumed the role of chair of advanced practice programs. She believes that nursing education is a catalyst for change for students and their patients.
Dr. Livingston has been a nurse for 25 years and a nurse practitioner for 15 years. She is dual certified as both a family nurse practitioner and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and teaches both tracks within the DNP program. She serves as the lead faculty member for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner track. She is an active member of several nursing, advanced practice nursing, and civic organizations.
NPSchools.com: What do you wish the public understood about nurse practitioner programs?
Dr. Livingston: I wish the public understood the high quality of nurse practitioner education in Oklahoma! A great example is Oklahoma City University’s Kramer School of Nursing. Their faculty excels in supporting student preparation for national certification. In 2024, the program celebrated a 100 percent pass rate for first-time test takers from the nurse practitioner program. The program’s all-time pass rate (all classes graduating since the program’s first cohort in 2014) is 96.9 percent. These numbers are far above the national averages for first-time test takers.

NPSchools.com: What advice would you give aspiring nurse practitioner program students?
Dr. Livingston: Choose wisely by doing the research. Accrediting bodies require nurse practitioner programs to publish data on their websites. Data of interest include job placement rates and certification pass rates.
Research the program’s ability to provide students with support for clinical placement. It can be difficult to find a willing preceptor, which could complicate the educational process.
