Angelo State University Online Family Nurse Practitioner Programs

The Department of Nursing through the Archer College of Health and Human Services at Angelo State University offers an online Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN – FNP) program and a Post-Master’s FNP Certificate. Students complete coursework online and come to campus for three immersions during the program. Practicums are also completed at approved facilities local to the student in Texas.

Angelo State University seeks to create leaders in the nursing industry through instilling ethical decision-making and creative thinking skills, interprofessional communication techniques, foundational knowledge, and active, hands-on practice. The online FNP nursing programs seek to prepare students to serve patients in underserved and vulnerable populations.

Family nurse practitioner (FNP) graduates are prepared to serve populations across the lifespan from babies to adults and the elderly. FNPs may assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat chronic and acute illnesses. Family nurse practitioners focus on preventive medicine and patient education, working with routine checkups, common illnesses, and non-emergency issues to improve the care of patients and communities. Locations where FNPs work include primary care clinics, schools, hospitals, community health facilities, government organizations, long-term care facilities, and some home health care situations. Graduates of these programs are eligible to sit for the family nurse practitioner certification exams through the American Nurses Credentialing Corporation (ANCC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

No GRE is required for admission and students must have at least one year of recent professional RN experience in Texas. Clinicals must be completed in Texas, therefore the program is only open to residents of Texas.

Angelo State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The online MSN programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Angelo State University is located in San Angelo, Texas.
