Maryville University Online NP Programs

Maryville University’s Catherine McAuley School of Nursing offers an online MSN, DNP, BSN to DNP, and Post-Master’s Certificates, all with five nurse practitioner specializations to choose from. These programs are 100% online with no campus visits and practicums at approved facilities local to the student. The following NP specializations are offered:

  • Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
  • Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Maryville offers multiple pathways for each specialization, meeting students where they are in their educational and professional journey. Keeping the programs 100% online with local preceptorships allows students the flexibility to earn a degree from anywhere and serve in their local community.

Students in the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP program may eventually work in emergency rooms (ER), intensive care units (ICU), sub-acute care settings, Med-Surg units, Step Down units, and trauma units. Working with patients from young adults to the middle-aged and elderly, AGACNPs work to improve the quality of life for patients with acute illnesses that are often serious, complex, and multi-faceted. Acute Care NPs work with teams of doctors, patients, and their families to create treatment plans for acute illnesses.

Students in the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP program may eventually work in primary clinics, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. While they are trained to work with patients from age 13 to the elderly, AGPCNPs typically focus on older adults, helping to identify risk factors, promoting preventive care, and managing existing health issues. Primary Care NPs often work with patients, their families, and care teams to monitor chronic conditions and manage medications, and create care plans for an improved quality of life.

Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) may work in a variety of settings including hospitals, primary care clinics, home health situations, long-term care facilities, and schools. FNPs are qualified to diagnose and treat both acute and chronic illnesses and often focus on preventive medicine and health care education. Other roles include conducting routine check-ups and working with care teams to provide a holistic approach to health care.

Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) are trained to work with infants, children, and adolescents in preventive, acute and chronic care situations. PNPs focus on the growth and development of children and adolescents, typically in primary care settings, through preventive medicine and health care education.

Finally, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) assess the mental health of patients, treat mental health conditions, and provide advice for living with mental illness. Working with patients and families, PMHNPs may manage psychiatric services for the patient and prescribe medications when needed. Psychiatric Mental Health NPs may go on to work in correctional facilities, psychiatric hospitals or in-patient facilities, home health care situations, and government-run psychiatric organizations.

Graduates of each specialization will be eligible to take their respective licensure exams. Maryville University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The RN to BSN, MSN, Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Certificate, and DNP programs at Maryville University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington DC 20001, 202-887671. Tuition is calculated based on credits, at the published tuition rate. Rates may change, so please check here for the latest tuition information. For programs with variable tuition rates, we use the rates for part-time students. “Resident” and “non-resident” refer to the student’s school-recognized state residency status. Tuition number represents the cost of tuition for the entire program, not per semester or year. Estimated total tuition does not include additional fees.
