Students complete coursework 100% online with one required campus visit for the AGACNP MSN and Post-Master’s Certificate programs. Practicums are completed at approved facilities local to the student.
Adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners (AGACNPs) work with acutely ill adult patients in intensive care units, surgical units, and critical care settings. They provide diagnosis and management of acute and complex illnesses, working with a care team to create a care and treatment plan. Graduates of this track are eligible to take the AGACNP certification exam. Students in this specialization come to a Purdue Global location for a 2.5-day intensive.
Adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioners (AGPCNPs) work with young adults, adults, and aging adults in primary care and long-term care situations, treating acute and chronic illnesses, creating care plans, and promoting preventive medicine. Primary care nurses work with individuals, families, and communities to improve patient quality of care to the populations they serve. Graduates of this specialization are eligible to take the AGPCNP certification exam.
Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) serve patients across the lifespan through preventive medicine and education, physical assessment, and diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions. Primary care nurses deliver a more holistic version of patient care, working with patients, their families and the communities they serve to improve quality of life and quality of care. Graduates of this track are eligible to take the FNP certification exam.
Psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) work with patients across the lifespan, assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health needs, including substance abuse, addiction counseling, psychological disorders, and other psychological issues. In addition, PMHNPs are qualified to prescribe psychiatric medications. Graduates of this track are eligible to take the PMHNP certification exam.
