UMass Amherst Online Nurse Practitioner Programs

The College of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst (UMass Amherst) offers a fully online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with BSN and ADN/non-nursing bachelor’s entry points in the following specializations:

  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Post-Master’s Certificate is also offered. Coursework is 100% online with no required campus visits and practicums are completed at approved facilities local to the student.

Graduates of the DNP nurse practitioner programs will be able to lead and collaborate with other professionals to promote change in health care systems; address cultural needs regarding care, especially in regards to disparities and social needs; carry out the duties of nurse practitioners in the DNP role to improve health care outcomes; and manage complex health problems through evidence-based nursing.

The PMHNP certificate is designed for practicing nurses who want to expand their expertise to helping patients, families, and groups with their mental health needs. The certificate prepares graduates to address the person as a whole including psychological, social, biological, and spiritual needs. Those with psychiatric mental health nursing experience are given preference when admitting for the PMHNP certificate program. Graduates of this program may apply for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification exam for PMHNPs.

Graduates of the DNP programs will be eligible to take their respective exams for credentialing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).

Nurse practitioners may work in primary care clinics, school and government facilities, long-term and home healthcare situations, counseling centers, treatment centers, and research facilities.

UMass Amherst is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). UMass Amherst is located in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Tuition is calculated based on credits, at the published tuition rate. Rates may change, so please check here for the latest tuition information. For programs with variable tuition rates, we use the rates for part-time students. “Resident” and “non-resident” refer to the student’s school-recognized state residency status. Tuition number represents the cost of tuition for the entire program, not per semester or year. Estimated total tuition does not include additional fees.
