Misericordia University Online NP Programs

Misericordia University offers three online nurse practitioner programs through the College of Health Sciences and Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice with NP specialization (BSN to DNP – NP), and a Post-Master’s Certificate. Each path offers two specializations: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP). These online options require two campus visits and provide 100% online coursework. Practicums are completed at approved facilities local to the student.

Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are prepared to serve patients across the lifespan in a variety of settings which may include urgent care facilities, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, private practice, government facilities, schools, emergency departments, and community health centers. FNPs may diagnose injuries and diseases, develop treatment plans for acute and chronic illnesses, perform routine physical exams, prescribe medications, recommend therapies including physical, speech, and occupational therapy, and educate patients, families, and communities on health care prevention strategies.

Adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioners (AGPCNPs) may work with teens to older adult patients in primary care settings, geriatric nursing settings, women’s health, long-term care facilities, outpatient care, urgent care, in hospitals, and home health care situations. Like FNPs, AGPCNPs are able to diagnose, treat, and develop treatment plans for acute and chronic illnesses, conduct routine health care exams, and educate their patients, families, and communities in preventive health care.

The BSN to DNP program is designed to move nurses seamlessly through the MSN with NP specialization and on to the DNP portion. Students earn both an MSN and DNP by the end of the program. Note that students applying to the certificate program may transfer in credits depending on prior education, especially if they already hold a nurse practitioner certificate.

Graduates of the nursing programs will be eligible to sit for the national certification exams for their chosen specialization through the American Nurses Credentialing Corporation (ANCC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Misericordia University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Misericordia University is located in Dallas, Pennsylvania.

  • Post-Master’s NP Certificate: Hold a MSN degree from an accredited US institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0

State Restrictions: Misericordia University accepts students from a limited number of states, so applicants outside of Pennsylvania should check with the College of Health Sciences and Education to make sure they are eligible for the nursing programs. In addition, prospective students should contact the licensing board of their specific state of residence to determine if the program meets state requirements for NP licensure. The Misericordia nursing programs currently meet state licensure requirements in Alaska, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington D.C.

For programs with variable tuition rates, we use the rates for part-time students. “Resident” and “non-resident” refer to the student’s school-recognized state residency status. Tuition number represents the cost of tuition for the entire program, not per semester or year. Estimated total tuition does not include additional fees.
