North Park University is a private Christian university in Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1891 by the Evangelical Covenant Church.
This article covers four North Park University online nursing options: the adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (AGPCNP) MSN program, the family nurse practitioner (FNP) MSN program, the post-master’s certificate program in adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, and the post-master’s certificate program in family nurse practitioner.
The MSN AGPCNP program prepares students to provide primary care from adolescence through frail older adulthood, while the MSN FNP program prepares students to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered primary care across the lifespan. The AGPCNP post-master’s certificate program is designed for nurses who want advanced preparation in adult gerontology primary care, and the FNP post-master’s certificate program is designed for nurses who want advanced preparation in family primary care.
These programs are designed for working professionals who need flexible study options. North Park says its online programs allow students to complete much of the coursework when and where it works best for them, while still offering expert mentorship, connections with diverse peers, and access to academic advising, tutoring, academic coaching, disability resources, student planning, and research support.
The programs also include practical learning through campus visits and on-site immersion experiences. Both MSN programs include a three-day on-site skills immersion in the state-of-the-art simulation lab, along with clinical placement support. The post-graduate certificate programs also include three days on-site in the simulation lab and supervised practicum hours at designated clinical sites.
North Park University’s baccalaureate nursing program, master’s degree program in nursing, doctor of nursing practice program, and post-graduate APRN certificate program are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The university is also institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and has maintained continuous regional accreditation since 1926.

What to Expect from the North Park University Online NP Programs
Admission Requirements: To apply to North Park University’s MSN programs, applicants must submit a completed NursingCAS application. They must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, hold a bachelor of science in nursing from an accredited program, and have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Applicants must also submit official transcripts from all previous schools and show completion of courses such as nursing research, statistics, and health assessment. In addition, they must have an unencumbered RN license in the state of Illinois, a professional resume, a 300-word essay on their nursing goals, and two professional recommendations from health professionals, with at least one from a current or recent nursing supervisor.
North Park may invite applicants to an interview, and accepted students must complete an academic advising appointment before enrollment. Before starting clinical training, students must also complete the interagency practicum agreement, provide proof of liability insurance, and finish all required health screenings, immunizations, background checks, and drug screenings for clinical clearance.
For the post-master’s certificates, applicants must also hold a master of science in nursing from an accredited program. Graduate nursing students may transfer up to nine semester hours of equivalent coursework with approval if the courses meet the stated grade and age requirements.
State Restrictions: North Park University’s online nursing programs are designed with flexibility in mind. Applicants must have an unencumbered RN license in the state of Illinois.
The university’s online programs are intended for working professionals, and students can complete much of the coursework at a time and place that works best for them. Students may be invited to an interview and, before enrolling, they must complete all clinical clearance requirements, including the interagency practicum agreement, liability insurance, immunizations, health screenings, drug screenings, and background checks.
Study Plan: The MSN AGPCNP program takes 32 months to complete and includes 48 credits. It is a 100 percent online program with on-site skills immersion, and students complete 765 hours of supervised practicum at designated clinical sites after finishing the front-loaded, didactic-intensive coursework.
The MSN FNP program also takes 32 months and requires 52 credits. Like the AGPCNP program, it is fully online with on-site skills immersion and includes 765 practicum hours. Students first complete the APRN coursework before moving into the practicum phase.
The AGPCNP certificate can be completed in 20 to 32 months and requires 37 credits. The FNP certificate can also be completed in 20 to 32 months and requires 41 credits. Both certificate programs include 765 practicum hours and on-site immersion opportunities.
North Park offers multiple start dates per year, and the application deadline is August 10, 2026, with a start date of September 7, 2026.
Curriculum: North Park University’s MSN programs share a common core of courses. These core courses are scientific inquiry and knowledge development; health care systems: organizations and resources; population-based health care; professional communication and collaboration; health and wellness promotion; advanced practice nursing: role concepts and transitions; advanced pathophysiology; advanced pharmacology; advanced health assessment; and campus immersion and practicum qualification.
The MSN AGPCNP program then adds adult health I and II – primary care; adult health primary care practicum; advanced practice gerontologic nursing I and II – primary care; advanced practice gerontologic nursing primary care practicum; adult gerontology primary care residency I and II; and a capstone project. The MSN FNP program includes adult health I and II – primary care; adult health primary care practicum; pediatric primary care; pediatric primary care practicum; women’s health primary care; women’s health primary care practicum; adult gerontology primary care residency I and II; family practice residency I and II; and a capstone project.
The post-master’s certificate programs also share a common core. These courses are health and wellness promotion; advanced practice nursing: role concepts and transitions; advanced pathophysiology; advanced pharmacology; advanced health assessment; and campus immersion and practicum qualification.
The AGPCNP certificate then includes adult health I and II – primary care; adult health primary care practicum; advanced practice gerontologic nursing I and II – primary care; advanced practice gerontologic nursing primary care practicum; adult gerontology primary care residency I and II; and a capstone project. The FNP certificate includes adult health I and II – primary care; adult health primary care practicum, pediatric primary care, pediatric primary care practicum, women’s health primary care, women’s health primary care practicum, advanced practice gerontologic nursing I – primary care; family practice residency I and II; and a capstone project.
All four programs include a front-loaded, didactic-intensive structure, on-campus clinical immersion, supervised practicum experience, and a capstone project. Students in these programs complete their coursework in seven- or 14-week course durations, and the curriculum is designed to prepare them for certification or licensure and for practice in a variety of primary care settings.
Online Experience: North Park University delivers these nursing programs through 100 percent online coursework, and the classes are taught through Canvas by responsive faculty. The programs are designed for working professionals, so students can complete flexible coursework when and where it works best for them while still staying connected to instructors and classmates.
On-Site Requirements: Each program includes a three-day on-site skills immersion in North Park’s state-of-the-art simulation lab. The programs also require an on-campus clinical immersion experience and supervised practicum hours at designated clinical sites, with clinical placement support provided by the university.
